Radiology to station: Multistation DICOM Viewer over network stored 2D/3D scans
An interesting challenge, as the original design of the radiology solution was to trigger the start of the process from each chair. An incredibly cumbersome solution as it required all off the stations to be fitted with a PC in a very tight space. Moreover, the radiology machine was in another room completely. Also the cost of fitting each chair with a PC was 40% bigger than the solution we deployed..
What we came up with was to use a dedicated computer for all the radiology scanner needs. This made more sense since you need to have access to a computer near the machine to be able to actually operate it. We’ve deployed a network attached storage and made the scanner use it as main storage for patient files, each with his own folder. Than added tablets with some modified VESA mounts, to seamlessly fit the chairs (we even painted them white to fit the aesthetics of the chair.). Installed a DICOM Viewer solution on the tablets, and pointed them to the same network attached storage the scanner was outputing the files to. Bonus points: you can interact with the scans via touch-input in a much more intuitive manner.
